Switzerland is divided into member states or cantons of which one canton is Zurich. You don't need to look far for scenic lakes in Zurich. There are plenty of lakes within this canton to keep you engaged, enthralled, and entertained.
Katzensee Lake
Situated on the outskirts of Zurich, this lake is the perfect place for some peace and tranquility. Not overcrowded, this scenic lake offers a day of relaxation and rejuvenation in the midst of nature. Enjoy spotting the various birds that take shelter here.
Recreational activities of various kinds are offered here. Enjoy a barbecue or picnic with family and friends. There's a playground for kids to spend their time. Washrooms and toilets are available.

Swimming and skinny dipping are enjoyed here, however, this natural lake is a nature reserve, so you cannot bring along tubes, floats or any other kinds of swimming aids. This is to protect the lake, so please pay heed. There are no lifeguards here, so please ensure you all take adequate precautions while swimming.
During winter, when the lake freezes over, if it's safe enough and permission is granted, the lake transforms into a natural ice-skating rink. It's nothing short of a winter wonderland.

Lake Ageri or Lake Aegeri
This lake is among the smaller lakes in the country and city of Zurich, nevertheless, what it lacks in size, it compensates in beauty. The view of the Alpine mountains against the turquoise blue waters is amazing.
A boat cruise is a great way to soak in the Swiss charm of this lake. Sit back and enjoy the scenic views from the deck. Depending on the type of cruise package, you can enjoy a variety of recreational activities on the lake.
Considered the hidden gem of the Swiss Canton, this lake offers scenic hiking to Aegeri Valley. Special pirate ship tours are available that allows kids to dress up as pirates and go on a fun treasure hunt experience.
Lake Zurich
The largest lake in the canton of Zurich, this lake also happens to be among the five largest lakes in Switzerland.
A major portion of the lake lies in the canton of Zurich, however, two other cantons also contain portions of the lake.
The best way to explore this large lake is by hopping aboard one of their two historic paddle steamers. Their sunset cruise is a wonderful way to enjoy the lake enveloped in glorious colors of the setting Sun.
As you cruise along the lake Zurich, you will reach the town Rapperswil, which is popularly known for its Rapperswil castle and garden of roses (housing over 16,000 bloomed roses).
Lake Greifensee
Second largest lake after Lake Zurich in the canton of Zurich, this lake is a UNESCO protected site. Situated about 12 kms to the northeast of Zurich, the city of Greifensee lies along its shore.
Cruise around the lake in their historic steam boats, Greif and Heimat. What's so special about these steamboats? Well, Greif happens to be the oldest steamboat to be still running with coal and she's 119 years old. So a trip on this piece of history is going to be remarkable!
The 22 km circuit around the lake is popularly used for cycling and skating. Wonderful path for in-line skaters to skate freely in a scenic setting. Every September, a road running event called Greifenseelauf is conducted here.
Sailing is quite popularly enjoyed here and for beginners and sailing enthusiasts, sailing lessons are also offered here. Sailing in this picturesque location is definitely bliss.

Lake Türlersee
Situated in the canton of Zurich, this small lake is a waterbody in a more simpler Swiss setting, however, can get really crowded in the summer months.
A 4 km trail path surrounds the lake, which is used by adults and kids for lovely strolls around the lake. Sunset strolls are magical, as you view the glowing rays shine off the water surface and light up the green forest trees.
Since camping is offered here, you can spend a few days camping here. Rent paddle boats offered here or simply spend time fishing. You don't need a license to fish here, so enjoy!
Lake Pfäffikersee 
Also known as Pfäffikon lake, this lake is situated near the town of Pfäffikon, in the canton of Zurich. It's popularly known for its reed belt and is also home to tufted ducks and a variety of flora and fauna.
Pfäffikon ZH is a circular path encircling the lake. The best way to soak in the beauty of the place is by going on a hike along this path. The view is incredible and the air feels so fresh and pure. The flora and fauna you encounter along the way will leave you enthralled.
Juckerhof farm is yet another highlight of this lake. This farm offers a lot of activities like picking berries, cherries and even juicy apples when they're in season. Enjoy farm fresh meals with the gorgeous lake view before you.
